Guthrie Theater

The Guthrie Theater, located in Minneapolis is one of the most renowned regional theaters in the United States. The theater is known for its commitment to producing classic and contemporary plays, providing a platform for both established and emerging playwrights and actors. The Guthrie Theater stands as a cultural and artistic anchor in the Twin Cities, celebrated for its world-class performances and contributions to the enrichment of the local and national theater scene.

Overseeing several high-profile theater projects, especially those involving intricate design details such as this, McGough was the ideal partner to carry out the vision for this project.

New construction of a 285,000 SF performing arts space includes:

  • Three separate theaters
  • Education spaces
  • Administrative offices
  • Production shop
  • Multilevel 1,000-car parking ramp

The new Guthrie Theater replicates the original theater’s signature thrust stage (1,150 seats), and also includes a proscenium stage (700 seats) for more contemporary work and a flexible space (250 seats) for new work and actor/artist development. Additionally, the theater included several scopes dedicated to restaurant and hospitality space.
