McGough marked the 10th anniversary of its Des Moines, Iowa office with a reception for employees, clients, partners, and community members. This milestone was an opportunity to celebrate long-standing relationships, projects and shared commitments that have shaped McGough’s presence in the region over the past decade.
McGough’s connection to Iowa extends well beyond the past decade. We completed our first project in the state in 1992, and over the decades that followed, additional work helped establish our track record across Iowa. Those early projects demonstrated that Iowa was a market where McGough could contribute meaningfully, build lasting community connections, and thrive.
Jon Holmen, now vice president of McGough’s Texas operations and one of the original employees in Iowa, reflected on the office’s early days and the relationships that have continued over the past decade.
There’s a lot of familiar faces here tonight that were here 10 years ago when we did our ribbon cutting up in Ankeny,” Holmen said. “We started off in this market with two really nice projects – Iowa State and Grinnell College. I’m super proud of how the team has carried this on.”
Relationships remain central to our work in Iowa. Over the past decade, our Iowa team has supported projects across healthcare, power and infrastructure, government, high-tech laboratories, higher education, and public spaces, including Two Rivers Park in downtown Des Moines. Each reflects the importance of showing up locally, collaborating closely, and prioritizing lasting relationships in the region.
Construction companies often talk about their projects,” said Mike Harryman, general manager for McGough in Iowa. “We really focus on the relationships and the partnerships that we’ve had over the past ten years. Thank you all to our partners – we couldn’t have done it without you.”
As our Des Moines office looks ahead, our focus remains on supporting Iowa communities, deepening partnerships, and helping clients meet future needs in areas such as water and wastewater, data centers, and power generation. The 10-year celebration was a moment to look back, but more importantly, it reaffirmed the trust, collaboration, and community investment that will guide our work in Iowa for years to come.
