Yankton School District Early Childhood Center

The 73,000 SF Early Childhood Development Center (ECDC) is being constructed just south of the Chan Gurney Municipal Airport. The new center will help to meet the growing demand for early childhood education services in Yankton and will provide a positive learning environment for young children.

The ECDC will house all the Preschool, Junior-K, and Kindergarten students in the district. It will also have space for special education programs. Key features include:

  • 9 Preschool & Jr K Classrooms
  • 10 Kindergarten Classrooms
  • Full-Service Kitchen
  • Gymnasium
  • Dedicated library and art room
  • Music room with a stage
  • Family resource center
  • Parking, Playgrounds, Outdoor play fields
  • Master planned for future 1st Grade Addition (10 Classrooms)

This project is part of the district’s “Forward 2024” plan and is expected to be a significant step towards improving early childhood education in the Yankton School District.
