The Fargo-Moorhead area has been growing strong for decades by almost every measure – population, economic activity, and quality of life – and McGough is proud to have played a part of that growth. On the 10-year anniversary of our Fargo office’s opening, McGough leaders gathered to celebrate the milestone and the team’s success.
“We were involved in work across North Dakota since the late 1990s and realized that this was going to be a region with long term growth,” said Nate Wood, Executive Vice President, Regional Operations and one of the leaders involved in opening the new office in 2015. “We saw an opportunity to put down roots and become a part of that. Being local is important. It aligns with our core value of lasting relationships.”
Having “boots on the ground” in Fargo also meant McGough had a chance to showcase what makes us different and an excellent partner for the increasing number, scale and complexity of projects in North Dakota. “The market has been receptive to our way of delivering successful projects – 100% open book, transparent, and with a lot of experience in CMAR delivery,” said Spencer Hilde, General Manager for North Dakota. “People know we are a partner they can count on when they hire us.”
Building an Exceptional Team and Strong Partnerships

“Part of what’s been great about having the office in Fargo has been the ability to hire really good people who live in the area,” Spencer said. “We’ve grown our team to the point where we have all of the capabilities in house: safety, quality, engineering. We deliver with a complete local team.”
Nate agrees. “I’m proud of the talent that McGough has been able to attract and retain over the last ten years,” he said. “It’s extremely rewarding to see how the people who joined the office have grown into some of the most respected leaders within McGough and the Fargo community.”
Also vital to McGough’s success has been the relationships built with local subcontractors, suppliers and business partners. “We know what works best for local contracting community, and they know what to expect on our jobsites,” Spencer said. “Familiarity makes our projects more successful for everyone. That can only be established by being present and having a deep understanding of the market.”
Landmark Projects and an Eye on the Future
Key projects spearheaded by our Fargo office include the RDO Tower (formerly Block 9) in the heart of downtown Fargo, the tallest building in the city; the Fargo Parks Sports Center; and many projects for Sanford Health. Together, these reflect the ways McGough is contributing to the economic, physical and cultural health of the city.
Looking forward, McGough continues to work on the expansion of the Hector International Airport’s terminal, helping connect Fargo to the world, and will continue to work on industrial, educational and government projects in the area.
“Fargo is going to continue to grow,” said Spencer. “We’ve been fortunate to build a lot of really great projects that have been a part of that growth. Being here has been what we hoped for and more.”
“I look forward to the 20-year anniversary,” Nate added. “I can’t imagine the growth and success we’ll see over the next ten years in Fargo.”
