Multiphase six-story horizontal expansion of existing facilities including new emergency departments for both United and Children’s Hospitals. The expansion was built on a tight urban site on an existing campus, and the emergency department entrance was kept operational 24/7 during construction. McGough devised a creative solution for temporary ambulance drop-off and a temporary drive-under canopy built to protect patients from the construction during emergency drop-offs and pickups. The combined emergency departments encompassed four trauma rooms; 38 patient examination rooms; five mental health examination rooms; six triage rooms; radiology/equipment rooms; and a six-stall covered ambulance bay.
Other new spaces within the expansion project included a surgery suite with eight operating rooms, locker rooms and conference space; 12 PICU rooms; 56 patient rooms; family overnight stay rooms; and physical therapy and sterile processing departments. Total project square footage was 233,425 SF.
A 4,000-square foot renovation of the Children’s Hospital single-story main entrance building was completed in 2015 with a skyway connection to the existing Children’s Hospital.
As the construction manager at risk, McGough provided demolition, rough and finish carpentry, concrete, masonry and general conditions services.
