McGough is providing construction management services for a multi-year, 2.5 million-square-foot expansion of Mayo Clinic’s downtown Rochester campus which introduces new clinical facilities designed to elevate the patient and staff experience and lead the future of healthcare.
A central component of the work includes two new nine-story clinical buildings that establish a unified point of arrival for patients. These new facilities link seamlessly to the existing Gonda Building through a skybridge that enhances connectivity across services. The design incorporates warm, light-filled spaces and flexible infrastructure that can evolve with emerging treatments and digital capabilities.
McGough’s scope involves coordinating complex structural systems, vertical construction and seamless tie-ins to existing facilities while working in a way that supports uninterrupted campus operations.
The project demands a high level of precision, planning and collaboration across trades, design partners, and stakeholders. McGough is leading efforts to manage phasing, logistics and safety across a dense urban site, while advancing construction strategies that support long-term flexibility and evolving care delivery models.
Key design and patient experience elements include:
- Double-height winter gardens offer natural light, expansive views of the city and restorative moments for patients, families, and staff.
- Flexible floor plates and generous floor-to-floor heights allow rapid adaptation as care models evolve.
- Design and construction of integrated mechanical systems and technology infrastructure operating behind the scenes to support seamless care.
- A connected campus experience, strengthened by a new skybridge linking the clinical towers with the Gonda Building.
Through close collaboration with project partners, McGough is helping bring this large-scale healthcare expansion to life — ensuring constructability, continuity of operations and long-term performance.
