McGough partnered with Gillette Children’s Healthcare and the project team on the renovation of seven operating rooms in St. Paul, Minnesota. The 13,300 SF project transformed an active pediatric surgical platform while maintaining ongoing patient care throughout construction.
Located within leased space connected to Regions Hospital, a Level 1 trauma center, the renovation required extensive coordination with shared HVAC, life safety, and mechanical infrastructure. Work was completed in five carefully planned phases over the course of one year to preserve surgical capacity, protect sterile environments, and minimize disruption to patients, families, and clinical staff.
The project included upgrades to HVAC systems, fire and smoke dampers, temperature and humidity controls, operating room layouts, lighting, utility booms, finishes, and integrated technology. Standardized room layouts, ceiling diffuser systems with integrated LED lighting, smart board technology, and improved equipment placement increased flexibility, improved workflow, and positioned the surgical platform for future growth.
All construction activities were performed under stringent infection control ( ICRA) and interim life safety (ILSM) protocols. Through close collaboration with Gillette Children’s, Regions Hospital, BWBR, Dunham, clinical staff, and facilities teams, McGough helped deliver a resilient, efficient, and future-ready surgical environment that supports advanced pediatric care.
