The City of Des Moines T.M. Franklin Cownie City Administration Building renovation consolidates multiple City departments into a centralized downtown location at 1200 Locust and 1200 Mulberry in Des Moines, Iowa. This 158,130 SF interior renovation supports improved collaboration and public service by bringing City staff and key services together under one roof.
Located in the former Nationwide building, the project repurposes and modernizes an existing structure to better serve the public and City operations. As part of the move, 11 City departments previously spread across four facilities began relocating to the updated space in early 2026, with full consolidation anticipated by mid-February.
The remodeled interior includes modern workspaces, collaborative environments, public meeting rooms, and a centralized customer service hub designed for efficiency and accessibility. By supporting a more unified City workforce and a customer-focused experience, the project helps streamline how residents engage with essential services in Des Moines.
