Terex Corporation Named Best Project

McGough is honored to have received a 2020 Best Project award from Engineering News-Record Mountain States for the Terex Corporation project in Watertown S.D.

The 2020 Best Projects competition recognizes construction across a seven-state region that includes Utah, Idaho, Montana, Colorado, Wyoming, North Dakota and South Dakota. A panel of 11 judges selected winners from 138 total entries.

Winning projects will be highlighted in the October issue of ENR Mountain States.

The new 425,000 SF facility on 60 acres co-locates all manufacturing and corporate operations with the exception of steel fabrication. Terex was operating in 11 different buildings in two cities in South Dakota and wanted to optimize operational efficiency and update their facilities to meet their growth projections. The new facility consolidated truck and boom installation, shipping/receiving, wet painting operations, fiberglass manufacturing, truck and boom assembly, and testing onto one site that also became the new home for research and development, a new powder coat operation, training space, a new customer inspection and view bay, and office facilities.

LEAN Processes and manufacturing were guiding principles for overall facility layout design and flow and were used to maximize the efficiency of the material and people movements thru out the building and site.

The building features an 80’ testing tower to support, overhead bridge cranes, ranging from 45-100 foot spans and unique test stand foundations used to support boom testing. Centralized resin, hardener, compressed air and oil delivery system feature humidity control and dust collection systems for sanding, drilling, and milling machines within Terex’s unique fiberglass operations area.

Site design included a truck test track, site grading and pavements, stormwater management systems, site utilities, exterior landscaping, security system including cameras, lighting and power systems, wastewater monitoring station, and environmental land and air permitting.
