East Village Building Gets Makeover with New McGough Office Location

Industry-leading construction firm opens Des Moines branch in one of East Village’s first historical renovations.

Des Moines (July 27, 2022) – Today, Des Moines’ East Village adds an exciting historical renovation to its claim as McGough construction officially completes their latest renovation project at 217 E 2nd St. McGough, who’s been in Iowa for more than six years, gets a new space (previously in Ankeny), and adds a welcomed upgrade to the budding East Village district of Des Moines. The space, executed in partnership with nearby neighbor – ISG Architects– is one of the East Village’s first historical renovation projects.

“As McGough continues to grow our presence both locally in Iowa and nationally, we felt it was important to find a space that fit our needs effectively, while also reflecting our personality and capabilities in construction all the same,” said Mike Harryman, General Manager – McGough – Iowa. “Our team is made up of local Iowans and we have vested interests in the Des Moines community, so adding one of the East Villages’ first historical renovation projects while upgrading our office space was a home run for us and we’re excited to get to work.”

The 23,000-square-foot building renovation started in February 2021, was done in conjunction with Christensen Development and ISG, who occupies the neighboring space with McGough. The renovation was also executed in partnership with the Iowa State Historical Preservation Office to ensure the integrity of the building was maintained throughout, adding to the projects unique appeal. The interior features original brick, anexposed building structure, existing window frames and salvaged materials from the original construction

To celebrate the completion of the project and office opening, McGough will be hosting a public open house today in the East Village beginning at 3:30 PM, with official ribbon-cutting ceremonies scheduled for 4:30 PM. Members of Des Moines area chambers will also be in attendance including Des Moines Downton Chamber, Fuse, Ankeny and Urbandale.

Founded more than 65 years ago in the Twin Cities, McGough’s Iowa office has executed industry-leading construction projects for their clients in a variety of different sectors from higher education to healthcare as well as community and municipality projects. The move to Des Moines furthers that goal and solidifies McGough’s commitment to serving our clients and greater Iowa area with best-in-class construction services well into the future.
