This comprehensive dual-fuel infrastructure expansion project was executed at a peaking power plant to facilitate the conversion of Unit #2 to operate on both natural gas and fuel oil. The initiative significantly enhances operational flexibility and reliability by establishing a robust framework to safely receive, store, and distribute fuel oil and demineralized water.
The scope of work included the construction of two large field-erected tank foundations supporting approximately one million gallons of water and fuel oil, a pumphouse expansion, and foundations for the Fuel Oil and Water Injection (FOWI) building. Additional work consisted of oil receiving systems, truck unloading facilities, extensive fuel oil and demineralized water piping, electrical systems, and owner-furnished/contractor-installed (OFCI) equipment installation.
Major equipment was successfully installed and integrated, supporting the plant’s upgraded power and capacity requirements. The completed infrastructure provides robust support for dual-fuel operations, enabling seamless transitions between natural gas and fuel oil while meeting the owner’s operational, safety, and performance objectives.
