McGough delivered a 15,000-square-foot precast addition to the existing Emergency Power Generation Facility (EPGF) at University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics, strengthening the hospital’s critical power reliability. The expansion houses two 2.5-MW Caterpillar generators and new 13.8-kV paralleling gear, with capacity in place for a future generator to support long-term campus needs.
To maintain continuous hospital operations while upgrading infrastructure across the system, the team also installed new switchgear cabinets at Stead Family Children’s Hospital and completed selective demolition of existing generators and electrical equipment within Roy Carver Pavilion and Pomerantz Pavilion. These enabling activities supported new substation equipment fed from the expanded EPGF—ensuring a seamless transition to improved power distribution for essential clinical services.
