A Letter from President and CEO – Tom McGough, Jr…
McGough is deeply saddened to share that Tom Maanum, long-time McGough team member and older brother of Travis Maanum, Senior Superintendent passed away this past Saturday. Many of you followed his journey over the last week on the Caring Bridge site that his family created. I read through the many messages from Tom’s coworkers at McGough and there is no better evidence of the impact he had at our company.
Tom was hired into McGough in 2000. Tom was a Carpenter by trade and was quickly moved into Layout on projects like the Guthrie Theater. He was promoted to Carpenter Foreman and worked on St. Joseph’s Hospital and United Hospital. He continued to grow into an Assistant Superintendent and then Superintendent. His last project-based role was as Superintendent on United Health Group’s campus. In that role he was part of the team that began McGough’s grassroots learning with Lean. John Bartz, Director of Field Operations at the time, promoted Tom to a General Superintendent and made him part of the Field Operations leadership team. It is in this role that Tom began what ultimately is his legacy with McGough – mentoring and developing people.
Tom played a pivotal role in creating an Assistant Superintendent development program at McGough. He was also instrumental in connecting McGough to the Superintendent Training Program in Las Vegas through the Carpenter’s union – a program that has grown dozens of McGough leaders over the years. Tom was passionate about helping people grow within this industry. I know he was on speed dial for many of you. When the name Tom Maanum is mentioned, there is a VERY large list of people inside and outside of McGough who can say they worked with him or for him. He was known as a thoughtful leader with a tremendous work ethic. He led with an optimistic and positive perspective and constantly strove for the success of our people and McGough.
