Under a clear Montana sky, community members, tribal leaders and project partners gathered in Box Elder, MT to celebrate a milestone for the Chippewa Cree Tribe: the groundbreaking of their new Tribal Administration Building on the Rocky Boy’s Reservation, northeast of Great Falls. The event marked the beginning of a new chapter built on collaboration, respect and community pride.
A Vision for the Future
Planned in collaboration with JGA – Plan One/Architects and shaped by input from tribal members and staff, the 23,500-square-foot facility will centralize tribal government services and provide space for programs that meet the community’s needs. McGough is serving as the construction partner for the project, which is expected to complete in spring 2027.
“Our investment in this new administration building is a testament to our commitment to the future of the Chippewa Cree people,” said Harlan Baker, Chairman of the Chippewa Cree Tribal Headquarters. “It will provide a central place where tribal members can access resources, celebrate culture and receive support that strengthens families, fosters wellness and ensures the spirit of care, community and belonging remains strong for generations.”
Groundbreaking Reflections
For McGough, this project is both an honor and a responsibility. “It’s a privilege to support the Chippewa Cree Tribe in building something that reflects both who they are and where they’re going,” said Nate Wood of McGough. “The collaboration and trust throughout this process have been meaningful, and we’re proud to continue that work as construction moves forward.”
The day began with elders blessing the ground, setting a meaningful tone for what followed. Tribal members, leaders and project partners then stood side by side to turn the first shovels of earth as a symbol of unity and shared purpose. Bright regalia, smiles and words of gratitude filled the morning as the community gathered to celebrate. The ceremony honored the Tribe’s heritage and celebrated the shared commitment to a strong, connected future.
Building Together
The new administration building represents an investment in leadership, access and opportunity for the Chippewa Cree people. McGough is proud to stand alongside the Tribe in this effort, helping to create a space that honors tradition while supporting growth and progress.
This partnership reflects what community building means at its core: people coming together with purpose and pride. As construction continues, we look forward to celebrating the milestones to come and seeing this vision take shape for the Chippewa Cree Tribe.
