This project will modernize the facility and improve the visitor experience, ensuring the integrity of significant artifacts and records, and providing improved educational programming for future generations. It’s an exciting development for the preservation of South Dakota’s rich history.
The project involves a comprehensive renovation of existing facility museum, lobby, restrooms, and administrative spaces and two additions. The facility will have a complete overhaul of the mechanical and electrical systems as well as a full replacement of the earth covered roof system. Approximately 3,000 square feet is being added to the complex’s northeast side for artifacts/archives to increase storage capacity and a 2,065 SF gathering hub is being integrated into the front of the building providing additional learning and conferencing space
