McGough’s remarkable restoration of Folwell Hall at the University of Minnesota is a testament to their expertise and dedication in preserving historical landmarks while adapting them for modern educational needs. Folwell Hall, with its rich history dating back over a century, had fallen into disrepair, making it a challenging yet rewarding project. With meticulous attention to detail, the company successfully revitalized this iconic structure, respecting its historical significance and architectural integrity. The restoration effort seamlessly integrated modern learning spaces, advanced technology, and sustainable design principles, providing a vibrant and innovative environment for students and faculty.

The total restoration of one of the most historic buildings on the University of Minnesota Twin Cities campus, Folwell Hall, totaled 136,000 SF . The project included restoring the historic integrity of the building installing new energy-efficient windows that replicated the original wood windows. Classrooms and offices were modernized and code and access deficiencies were corrected. New plumbing, HVAC, and electrical, data and telecommunications systems were also implemented. In addition to the interior renovation, McGough added two stairwells and two new elevators and replaced the exterior windows.

Through their unwavering commitment to preserving the past while building for the future, McGough not only revived Folwell Hall but also breathed new life into the University of Minnesota’s campus. The project’s success extends beyond bricks and mortar, as the restored Folwell Hall now stands as a symbol of the university’s enduring commitment to education, research, and the preservation of its heritage.
