Building for the Next Generation
The dedication ceremony for the Ames Laboratory Sensitive Instrument Facility was held last week in Ames, Iowa. The ceremony marked the opening of the 13,300-square foot facility designed to house next-generation and current instruments, which includes electron and scanning probe microscopes. The facility will enable the study of chemistry and structure at the atomic scale – we’re talking small! – by isolating instruments from vibration, thermal and electromagnetic interference. To put it briefly, they’re going to be doing some pretty awesome things over at the sensitive instrument facility!
Along with United States Secretary of Energy Ernest Moniz in attendance, were dignitaries, community members and representatives from Ames Laboratory and Iowa State University. The McGough Construction team – together with M+W Group, Sears Gerbo Architecture, Snyder & Associates and our many other project partners – also joined in the celebration.
Cheers to all! We look forward to hearing about the great work coming out of this facility for decades to come.
