McGough Breaks Ground on Ames Laboratory Sensitive Instrument Facility

Regional Leader in Complex Projects Continues Expansion into Iowa Market

CEDAR RAPIDS, IA – June 6, 2014

McGough Construction participated in the groundbreaking today for a new sensitive instrument facility for the U.S. Department of Energy’s Ames Laboratory on the Iowa State University campus.  The $10 million project, which is slated to be completed in early 2015, will house ultra-sensitive, state-of-the-art research instruments that facilitate the discovery and design of novel materials at the atomic level.

“We recently made a commitment to formalizing and expanding our presence in the Iowa market,” said Scott Sylvester, Vice President for McGough’s Iowa office.  “The Sensitive Instrument Facility project presented the perfect opportunity for McGough to advance these efforts and showcase the company culture and expertise that make us truly unique.”

In its 58 years of operations, McGough has developed a reputation as a go-to firm for delivering complex and challenging projects throughout the upper Midwest.  The company’s project experience ranges from technically complex and sensitive labs and data centers to industrial plants to leading-edge corporate office, performance, healthcare, and education facilities.

“McGough Construction has demonstrated a strong understanding of our needs for this very complex project,” said Mark Grootveld, manager of Facilities Services at the Ames Laboratory.  “We look forward to partnering with them to complete the Sensitive Instrument Facility over the next several months.”

McGough announced the establishment of its Iowa office and hiring of local industry veteran Sylvester to implement the company’s regional growth strategy earlier this year.
